History

Cambridge University Press has a history of printing books, bibles and journals of outstanding quality, for a wide variety of customers. As the oldest printing business in the world it was founded on a royal charter granted to the University by Henry VIII in 1534, and has been operating continuously since the first book was published here in 1584. The first Bible printed in Cambridge was an edition of the Geneva Bible in 1591, which was the Bible of Shakespeare, and was taken to America by the Pilgrim Fathers.
Today, the printing business of Cambridge University Press still makes high-quality books and bibles using traditional methods, yet also now offer a wide range of other products and services. The past five years have seen some radical transformations at Cambridge, culminating in the formation of a new printing business offering a wide range of products and services. Creative graphic design and web development services, (including tailored alumni packages), the full production and fulfilment of examination and assessment products, books of high-quality print with cased and craft bindings, larger format books, lightweight printing and short run digital volumes.
